Double Tulip Tulipa x hybrida Monsella

Double Tulip Tulipa x hybrida Monsella

Double Tulip Tulipa x hybrida MonsellaWell here is a recently completed piece for a competition at annkullberg.com. This is the first time I have entered the annual member competition and I’m an amateur compared to theĀ  entries accepted last year but I guess you wont get anywhere if you don’t try!

Flowers have always been daunting for me, there’s just so much going on! Loops and swirls and shadows and curves and highlights all to delight and confuse the eye. I saw this Double tulip at the Tesselar tulip festival here in Victoria last year and even then I knew I had to try to capture it’s beauty. We were fortunate to arrive on the last day of the festival, when the flowers are almost spent, past their perfect prime. But to paraphrase henry Miller, there is a beauty in their decay.

I have always looked upon decayas being just as wonderful an expression of life as growth. Henry V. Miller

I took so many photos that day, and I know there will be many tulips in my future now that I have popped my floral cherry so to speak!

As you will see this blog is very new and I am endeavoring to upload a clean slate of my work to showcase where I am at today.

Have a wonderful day!
